The ANSA ethos toward fishing is that “The
underlying spirit of angling is that the skill of the angler is pitted
against the strength and instincts of the fish and that the latter is
entitled to an even chance for its survival”. Many members of the
Sportfishing Group contribute to the WESTAG fish tagging Participation in
Sportfishing Group activities is open to all members of CPBA, guests of
members are welcome to participate on a social basis also. Activities of the
Sportfishing Group include:
·
Monthly fishing competitions
·
Boat ideas “how to” days
·
Monthly group meetings · Social events · Educational activities
·
Escorted trips to different fishing areas
·
Organised trips away

events have included escorted night navigation around Cockburn Sound,
escorted runs offshore, fish filleting how-to’s, trips to Jurien Bay,
Thevenard (Mackerel Islands) and Coral Bay, rig making nights and so on. The Sportfishing
Group conducts competitions on the 2nd Sunday of each month,
May is the exception when the competition is held on the 3rd

day is blown out due to poor weather conditions one attempt will be made
to hold the competition on the Sunday following, if that fails no
competition is held that month. Group meetings are
held in the Clubrooms from 7.30pm on the 3rd Monday of each
month. Social activities are
run throughout the year, most times these are advertised well in advance
in the Club Newsletter, sometimes lead times don’t quite work out right. Talk with the club
secretary for contact details or come along to the next Sportfishing
Group meeting or activity to find out more, Sportfishing Group
guidelines are available from the club on request or click on the link
